Resi 6 To Reboot Franchise

Resident Evil 5 will apparently be the last in the current style of Resident Evil games.

Series producer Jun Takeuchi has been speaking to 1up, which is reporting that "a reboot is in order for the inevitable Resident Evil 6."

We find this somewhat surprising, given that MTV has reported that the demo for Resi 5 has been downloaded a whopping four million times on Xbox 360 and PS3 since it launched a few weeks back.

Then again, perhaps Capcom now feels that it needs to evolve more regularly to keep its Japanese userbase. Takeuchi recently commented that he's worried about Western developers targeting the Japanese market.

It's too early to tell, at this stage, exactly what this reboot will mean, but we'll let you know when more news comes in.

Don't forget that a limited edition red Xbox 360 has been announced to tie in with Resident Evil 5, either.

Resident Evil 5 is due out on March 13th, for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
