Sega Announces New Mario And Sonic Title

Sega has announced a new Mario and Sonic title, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games.

Like its summertime counterpart, the game is set to be released on DS and Wii and is expected to hit retail in late 2009.

Development duties lie with Sega Japan, although Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto will apparently be supervising the project.

The game will take in a number of "lifelike" Winter Olympic venues and players will get the chance to control a roster of legendary, including some new faces to the series who will be revealed later in the year. A whole host of events will be available to take part in, including Alpine skiiing and speed skating.

The Wii version will include Balance Board support for "some events" and both co-op and competitve multiplayer modes.

"We are extremely happy to again team up with Nintendo and ISM on what promises to be another global success.” says Naoya Tsurumi, Sega America CEO.

"Sonic will partner with Mario once more beneath the spotlight of the legendary Olympic Games. Together they will face new athletic challenges that will provide gamers with more of the exciting experiences unique to this series."

"SEGA has been a valued publishing partner of Nintendo for many years and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is the ultimate representation of that relationship," added Nintendo America COO, Reggie Fils-Aime.

"We look for this game to continue the tradition its predecessor started by bringing new events, new characters, and new gameplay experiences to fans worldwide."
