EA has announced it will release a new game mode for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of FIFA '09.
The all-new Ultimate Team mode tasks players with collecting (or creating) the most talented players in the world, assembling a team and then taking that team online to compete against other human challengers. The winner will be crowned the Ultimate Team.
"A dedicated team developed FIFA 09 Ultimate Team," said EA's Andrew Wilson, "and they have created a game within the game, delivering a strategic new way to play FIFA 09 that will create hundreds of additional hours of playing time."
Players must collect "virtual player cards" which are designated gold, silver or bronze. There are 30 types of card available and there are more than just players to think about. You'll need to pick the right Manager, Formation and Tactics cards for your fantasy team. You can also drop Gameplay cards on your opponent at any point in a match to gain a strategic advantage.
Your Ultimate Team is fully customisable and you compete both online and off to earn more valuable cards and you'll have the chance to play for the most coveted trophies as you climb the league.
FIFA '09 Ultimate Team will be available to download for PS3 and Xbox 360 on 19 March.
