America's Army Is Most Downloaded War Game

The US Army has announced its PC shooter, America's Army, is the most-downloaded war game.

The news came as the game bagged five awards in the Gamer's Edition of the Guinness World Records 2009. According to official estimates, America's Army has been downloaded 42,611,601 times in its various forms, with the most recent version scoring 2.4 million downloads between January and July 2008.

The game also picked up four other awards: Most Hours Spent Playing a Free Online Shooter, Earliest Military Website to Support a Video Game, Largest Virtual Army and Largest Travelling Game Simulator.

The second instalment of the Guinness World Records 2009: Gamer Edition is due for release in the US today.

Clearly there's a market for decent free games. Unfortunately many associate 'free' with poo (get what you pay for philosophy). It looks an intriguing game, reviews are pretty good too.
