Classic Leipzig Games Convention Cancelled

The Leipzig Games Convention has been cancelled in favour of an online games convention which hopes to promote the online and mobile games specifically.

GAMEFORGE 4D and BIGPOINT, industry leaders in online and mobile gaming, will be supporting the event.

“The size achieved and the dynamics for growth in the market for online games really cry out for a strong fair – in Europe too. Given our domestic industry's leading world role for this segment, Germany is predestined to serve as the location," said CEO of GAMEFORGE 4D, Carsten van Husen.

Leipzig has been under fire for quite some time, and it comes as no surprise that the event has been cancelled.  Previous to this, there were talks that the convention would move to Cologne, a more appropriate setting for the event.

Last year Nintendo and Microsoft failed to make an appearance at the event, undermining the clout the event had in Europe.

Leipzig CEO, Wolfgang Marzin, comments that the industry is changing and that “new business models, setting off along new sales routes and appealing to new target groups,” was the focus of this new format that concentrates more on online gaming and mobile gaming.

Let’s hope that the revitalised E3 delivers this year or Germany's new show Gamescom in Cologne steps up to the plate in August.
