WoW Patch Riddled With Bugs

World of Warcraft's patch 3.0.8 went live on Monday night but to the disappointment of players, all of the shiny new improvements and additions have been overshadowed by dozens of new bugs.

This was the first major patch since the expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, came out in November. As with all software changes to games, the expansion had its fair share of problems, but many minor issues were resolved quickly with hotfixes. Larger problems, such as Achievement requirements being altered and a list of class fixes as long as your arm, had to wait for a patch and players were itching to see 3.0.8 go live. However, once the game servers came back up on Tuesday morning, it was clear things weren't going to go smoothly for Blizzard, WoW's developer.

Many of the new features that had been touted for 3.0.8 did not work correctly, and a number of the game's attractions have had to be switched off completely. The battle for Wintergrasp, the new world PvP area that has proven extremely popular with players, had to be suspended after a win by either side caused the server to crash. The PvP Arenas, which had a new rating match system applied with the patch, also had to be shut down until a fix could be implemented. Before the patch was rolled out Blizzard had proudly announced that WoW's first hero class the Death Knight, which was also introduced in Wrath of the Lich King, was having one of its creation limitations removed. However many players found this didn't work for them, and the developers had to apologise as they worked to resolve the issue.

Other major problems include:

  • Warlock's Ritual of Summoning currently has a two-minute cooldown.
  • Human Female Animation Errors.
  • Tooltip error on Howling Blast (currently doesn't indicate a cooldown).

In the last few hours, Blizzard announced that the Wintergrasp issue has been resolved and that all servers will need to be restarted to resume normal play. However, as time ticks on, more and more minor bugs come flooding in to the Bug Forum provided by Blizzard. For a company that prides itself on not pushing out anything until it's ready, this has to be a slap in the face.

So much for Blizzard polishing everything prior to release...
