EA has announced FIFA '09 has sold over two million copies since its release in October last year.
The latest iteration of its football simulation was both a critical and commercial success, taking the esteemed Christmas number one spot in the UK. It also returned to the top of the UK all format chart this week.
"The studio created a game that appeals to everyone", EA UK marketing manager Dan Holman told MCV.
"We’ve listened to our consumers and delivered the game they wanted with rich gameplay and innovation."
FIFA '09 was praised for its impressive new game engine and innovative game modes - the Be a Pro Seasons mode introduced RPG elements to the genre and the online 10 vs 10 mode marked a step forward for online football games. Check out our review here.
"We had a couple of well-timed promotions in place in the run-up to Christmas, but, more importantly, we’ve made an exceptional football game this year which has sold incredible numbers week on week since release", said Holman.
"We have now sold in excess of two million in the UK making it the fastest selling FIFA title to date.”
