Developer CCP has announced it plans to release its Apocrypha expansion for EVE Online on 10 March 2009.
The tenth free expansion for the space-based MMO, Apocrypha will launch simultaneously with the boxed retail copy of the full game.
The expansion will feature new, unexplored territory linked to the stars of New Eden by unpredictable wormholes. Technological rewards await those brave enough to explore, allowing players to create the most dynamic vessels yet - customisable Tech 3 ships which can fulfil a variety of roles.
In addition, players will also have access to all new story content as NPCs are authorised to assign Epic Mission Arcs to New Eden's pilots.
As if that wasn't enough, CCP has also revamped its New Player Experience system, making the game more accessible to newbies or returning players.
"Just this past week we broke our concurrent user record with 45,186 people flying unbound in the same game world at the same time—a huge percentage of our quarter of a million current subscribers and a true testament to EVE in our sixth year of operation", said CCP's Torfi Frans Olafsson.
"Today is an unprecedented time to start playing, as you can get ahead of the curve before Apocrypha releases in stores and our hard work hits the server cluster. It'll be easier than ever to get 'lost in the wormhole' that is EVE with what we have planned for the future of our expanding universe."
The developer promises to reveal more info about the expansion in the run up to its release, so check the official site for details.
