Doctors are warning of a Wii injury epidemic over the Christmas period, according to a report in a British newspaper.
The Daily Telegraph article claims a number of medical organisations have attributed a rise in injuries over the Christmas period to the Nintendo Wii.
For example, researchers at Leeds Teaching Hospital have coined the phrase "Wii knee" for a specific injury and osteopaths apparently experienced a rise in back injury cases throughout last year's holiday period.
The British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) also confirmed it has exeperienced a rise in cases caused by "excessive" use of the Wii.
One physician, Dr Andrew Coley from the Royal Shrewsbury Hopital managed to injure himself while playing the Wii. "I hurt myself by trying to get an Ace on my serve in the tennis game," he said.
A website compiling video footage of Wii injuries can be found here. Schadenfreude galore.
