Gabe Newell, Valve president, has allegedly replied to a post claiming that he believed there was “groundswell to abandon” DRM.
The response came after a gamer contacted him regarding the massive DRM mix up that has seen companies like EA upset their gaming audience.
"The goal should be to create greater value for customers through service value (make it easy for me to play my games whenever and wherever I want to), not by decreasing the value of a product (maybe I'll be able to play my game and maybe I won't).”
Newell goes so far as to say that “most DRM strategies are just dumb.”
"We really, really discourage other developers and publishers from using the broken DRM offerings, and in general there is a groundswell to abandon those approaches," he said.
We’ve dropped Valve an email to see if they have anything else to add.
