GTA IV PC to Have SecuROM

Gamers looking to buy a retail copy of Grand Theft Auto IV for the PC will have to jump through a few hoops in order to play their game.

In an interview with Rockstar on IGN, the company explained that in order to play the game you will need to activate the game online.

While online activation is required you can install the game on a computer that isn’t connected to the internet, you just have to complete “certain steps” in order to activate your game using another PC with a valid internet connection.

GTA IV will also use SecuRom for activation which is a one time online authentication required for the initial installation. However, GTA IV can be installed on an unlimited number of PCs by the retail disk owner.

Installing the game on a new PC will require you to authenticate again, but should only be a one time only affair unless you change any two major components on your PC such as CPU and a video card.

The game also requires you to run Games for Windows-LIVE, SecurROM, and the Rockstar Games Social Club application in the background in order to play the game.

Gamers may want to look into the steam version for the free Vice-City deal, and the less "demanding" Steam service.
