Having an internationally renowned IP may give you access to already existing fiction, but it does kick up a few problems. The thoughts of Peterscheck when discussing IP with IncGamers.
"IP is a double-edged sword. On one hand it gives you huge recognition, it gives you huge amounts of existing fiction to draw from so you don’t have to make everything up yourself."
Although, from his own admission, Peterscheck hasn't worked on a major IP, he envisages the problems which games developers may come across while trying to expand an IP and make relevant for a videogame.
"To be fair IP owners have to protect their IP too as what you’re doing has affects them and their brand."
Understandably working on your own IP gives that freedom to make the game you want to do without having to tiptoe around the license holder.
"It is nice to have that open book, the downside is that you have to fill it."
Look out for the last part of our Jumpgate interview which will go up later today.
