The Championship Gaming series has issued a statement announcing it will no longer continue the pro-gaming venture.
Televised pro-gaming received a further blow today when the Championship Gaming series revealed there would be no CGS 2009. Sponsors BSkyB, STAR and DIRECTV have come to the end of their contracts and have obviously decided the format simply doesn't appeal. The CGS state that "the economics just didn’t add up for us at this time".
There has been numerous attempts at bringing pro-gaming to the television and mass market. The CPL and the WSG also failed but its no real surprise if you actually watched the CGS which was some of the most uninteresting TV to watch as a gamer despite the high production values.
The CGS claim it was an "idea that came to early", but why would you watch people playing videogames on television when you could be playing them yourself?
