It has come to light this evening that THQ has closed down at least five of its development studios.
THQ is the latest publisher to make serious cutbacks according to Gamasutra. According to news circulating this evening, five of their development studios including Paradigm (Stuntman: Ignition), Helixe (Wall-E DS), Locomotive (Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed), Sandblast Games (Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon) and Mass Media will close. Sources in the UK also state that UK based developer Juice Games, developer of the Juiced racing series, has also let staff go.
THQ are set to release their quarterly financial statement this Wednesday so it appears these cuts are being made before any official financial press release is issued. So far THQ has declined to comment on any studio closures.
A few days ago Electronic Arts let go six hundred employees so this is just the latest industry cut-back news, and no doubt there will be more to follow.
