Six Hundred Redundancies at EA

Six hundred staff have been layed off at EA as the gaming giant starts to cut-back and downsize their workforce following their latest financial postings.

The redundancies have come as part of a 'cost reduction plan' which will result in annual pre-tax costsavings of approximately $50 million for EA.

Six percent of EA's workforce have been let go in this latest move to help EA grow their revenues in the tough economic climate. Speaking to Kotaku, Electronic Arts spokesperson Mariam Sughayer confirmed the redundancies adding :

"All parts of EA have reviewed their team sizes to adjust employeenumbers. The goal is to ensure we're resourced in a way that allows usto continue to grow our revenues while at the same time keeping ourcosts under control and improving profitability. These changes will beannounced to affected staff starting October 30."

These truly are uncertain times for most businesses and this is just the latest round of streamlining within the videogame industry which has seen company closures such as Ensemble and redundancies at NCSoft.
