Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto has said that Guitar Hero is a “cover band” when it’s compared to Wii Music.
In an interview with GameSpot, Miyamoto said that the game is more of a “musical arrangement engine” which allows players to rearrange classic songs with their own personal twist. If you’re fed up of hearing about Frere Jacques in a moaning, French kind of a way, then rearrange it in reggae style.
"As a game designer, I looked at Beatmania and Guitar Hero. Those games let people be the best cover band they could possibly be. As a musician, I wanted to create a game that lets people express themselves in music, and with Wii Music I think we achieved that," Miyamoto said to GameSpot.
The game has 60 songs and 60 instruments and will have soundtracks from videogames to classic hits. Miyamoto believes Wii Music is not only accessible to the casual gamer, but the hardcore may find something of interest too.
"I think you'll find people who are as hardcore playing Wii Music as any other game. I have found that, as a single player, you can spend over three hours arranging a single song. Since there's 50 songs, simple math tells you that you can spend 150 hours playing it - and that's just by yourself.”
Wii Music is set for release November 14.
