New Sega Game

Out of nowhere, Sega has launched its first ever free to use casual games portal which will be led by Sonic At The Olympic Games.

Called Play Sega, the site will allow you to play some of Sega’s best IP’s for free.

In a report from casualgaming.biz, Sega outlines that it will also be bringing more classic Sega IPs to the site in the near future.  30 to be precise, according to casualgaming.biz.

At this time, there are only a few on the portal’s beta launch, but with both classic and new titles coming, the beta will only be an indication of how well the site final version of the portal will do.

With seven catergories of games; Arcade, Card, Puzzle, Quiz, Sports, Word and Sonic, there certainly is room for a huge amount of games, especially with a vault of old skool games kicking around the Sega HQ.

“There was a story out there recently that we have a locked vault full of retro Sega classics in Japan. Well, it’s true – and we’ve been given full access to most of the properties in it,” said business director Nick Pili of Sega.

“This is the first time the Sega community can come together in one place, whilst enjoying some of our most exciting vintage and new IP.”

Registration is free and users can create their own personalised areas on the site called ‘Escapes’ using Sega Rings to buy and update things.  Sega Rings are free, but must be earned through game play.

“There are only a couple of other companies out there that have anything like the heritage we do – or can inspire the same affection amongst their fans.”
