Reuters reported on Wednesday that Google Inc has rolled out new technology to bring AdSense into the world of online gaming.
Advertisers are charged on a “cost-per-click” basis and the revenue is split between the game developers and Google for the use of their technology.
Developers currently on-board are Konami Corp and Demand Media. Also on board for advertising is Sprint Nextel Corp, and Sony Pictures. The transition of AdSense from the Internet into online games may seem like another way for developers to make money at face value, but it also is a notable concession by mainstream corporations that video games are becoming a serious player in the entertainment industry.
Hopefully if games can find a suitable balance in advertising without alienating the gameplay experience gamers can enjoy cheaper retail prices.
I guess we'll just have to see how this all pans out.
