Ubi Talks Open World PoP

Ubisoft has explained why it abandoned the open world setting for Prince of Persia.

Speaking to IncGamers, Ubisoft Montreal's Thomas Delbuguet described how the team was inspired by Assassin's Creed to attempt an open-world structure for Prince of Persia. However, it was soon decided that this didn't sit well in a PoP game.

"We experimented with an open world structure for Prince of Persia but we discovered a fundamental issue with that", said Delbuguet, "which was that we couldn’t get the choreographed acrobatic sequences that we needed. We were losing that PoP flavour."

"So we went back to the drawing board and created more of a networkthing, which allowed us to get more of those step-by-step sequences", he added. "It was a lot more interesting and ended up giving us the game we have now."
