Far Cry 2 is set to be one of the biggest releases this year, and having played the game for over 8 hours, we can say that this is probably an understatement.
Not only does the game boast over 30 hours of game play (walk through only, if you’re a completist, you’re looking around the 100 hour mark), but you can expect to make your own maps using a comprehensive map editor.
“We’ve given you all the tools that our dev team had creating the game. The only thing you can’t do is make it a single player game or add narrative to it,” Patrick Redding, game designer and narrative director of Far Cry 2, told IncGamers in an interview.
Staying true to the core audience was important to the team too, so the interfaces for both PC and consoles are completely different, giving them each “a unique and completely different feeling,” Louis-Pierre Pharand, FC2 producer.
The map editor will allow you to edit up to half a square kilometre of land in any way you think possible, and maps can be shared on multiplayer games. If you want a water-based level with items sunk into the bed and the water, then you can do it, if you want a jungle environment, it can be done. There are over 40000 objects to choose from.
Even vegetation is destructible. So blocking roads or paths couldn’t be easier. All you need is your trusty machete.
More Far Cry 2 news to come. Oh, and videos with the development team.
