Ninja Gaiden Man Slams Okami
28 Aug 2008 by Andy AldersonThe man behind Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive, Tomonobu Itagaki, has slammed the critically-acclaimed Okami in an interview.
Speaking to 1UP, a slightly worse-for-wear Itagaki offered his opinion on the Capcom title as well as its creator, Hedeki Kamiya.
"My daughter tried playing Okami, and she got pretty sick of it pretty quickly, and I got pretty sick of it too", he said. "And I'm not out to make this an Okami-bashing session or anything, I mean I'm just saying that it didn't feel like it had much of a spirit."
When told that Kamiya had been similarly dismissive of the Ninja Gaiden series recently, Itagaki launched a scathing attack on the Okami director.
"I just wanted to let your readers know that there are two types of people out there who like to make big comments", he said. "There's those that truly are outspoken, and there are those who are just trying to cover up for their weaknesses. We have a saying here in Japan which is that "the weaker dog barks more," and I sincerely hope that he is not one of the latter.
In the interview, Itagaki also adressed the state of Japanese game development via an extended figher pilot metaphor. We'll spare you that part.
