FUEL Announced

Codemasters has unveiled a new racing title called FUEL which is being developed by Asobo Studios.

Codemasters are known for their racing releases and the latest to join the likes of GRID is FUEL, an open-world racer due for release next year on the PC, 360 and PS3.

This new game will feature a "no-boundaries playfield that’s over 5,000 square miles (14,000+ km²) in size" where you can unleash your racing and stunt driving skills.

The game's setting is an "alternate present" where the world has been ravaged by global warming caused by "environmental abuse". Think Mad Max and you get the idea.

Key locations where you'll be able to drive include "a tsunami-wrecked pacificcoast through the Nevada wastelands, including the Grand Canyon, uptreacherous snow-capped mountains, thick forests, arid deserts, abandoned lakeside resorts and much more". A dynamic weather system is also being added to the game so expect wind, rain and even tornados.

“FUEL raises the bar in terms of scale and exhilaration for racinggames. We begin with the largest racing environment to appear in gaming– ever. With our accelerated effects of climate change and dynamicweather system we add an extra dimension that change races on-the-flyand constantly presents new challenges to players,” said SebastianWloch, Chief Executive Officer, Asobo Studios.

“Player choicelies at the heart of FUEL’s action-packed races and with a huge rangeof vehicles, packs of up to 16 vehicles speeding across diverse terrainand a no-boundaries, no-limits approach to racing, means players havenever had so much freedom to conquer the wilderness and take thechequered flag.”

“The technology Asobo Studios has developed tobuild FUEL is ground-breaking. To create a game on this unprecedentedscale to this level of graphical quality, complete with all the dynamicweather effects, is a great achievement,” said Barry Jafrato, SeniorVice President of Brand, Codemasters. “FUEL had to be a special titlefor Codemasters to include in our racing portfolio and we believe thatfrom both a gameplay and a technical perspective, FUEL compliments ourlong standing tradition of driving excellence.”

Look out for FUEL next year.
