Warner Bros. Announces Watchmen

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced Watchmen, a game based on the upcoming superhero film which based on the cult classic graphic novel.

Set in an alternate 1985 America, superheroes have been outlawed by the government. The game follows one hero's quest to discover the truth behind the murder of a colleague. In the process, he discovers a conspiracy designed to bring about the end of the world.

Watchmen will be delivered in downloadable episodes and promises to expand on the themes and characters introduced in the film.

"We’re bringing the Watchmen universe to gamers in a distinct episodic game revealing action and combat for a great overall experience for fans," said Warner's Samantha Ryan. "The filmmakers have been extremely helpful in developing the high-quality game story and we are working to match the outstanding visual style of the film."

The game is described as a "mature action-brawler" with players taking control of urban vigilantes Rorschach and Nite Owl.

Watchmen is due for release in 2009 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
