Capcom has confirmed it will not be reducing the level of gore in Resident Evil 5 to secure a lower age certification.
“We’re never going to create a gore-free Resident Evil title to try and get a lower rating," Capcom's Rhys Cash told MCV UK. "It’s a game about the horror experience and gore is part of that.”
"We’re primarily about making great games," he explained "and if it’s appropriate to the title we won’t shy away from making a 15+ or 18+ title."
Cash went on to state that, despite the current trend for casual non-adult titles on the Wii and DS, those formats can still support mature games.
"There’s no reason why an appropriate adult title should be seen as something to be shied away from," he said. "What I do see publishers moving away from is titles whose only raison d'être is ‘adult themes’ and only goal is to shock."
