MMO Developer Trion is in discussions with the Sci-Fi Channel to create a “groundbreaking” hybrid TV/games franchise it was reported in the LA Times.
The game will allow players to determine the outcome of a TV series by way of their actions in the virtual game world. Although the Sci-Fi Channel have kept shtum, they have hinted that it will be 100 years in the future and they are hoping to air in 2010.
Dave Howe, president of the Sci Fi Channel said that bringing games and online social communities was something the Sci Fi Channel has been trying to do for years. He believes that a once-a-week tv show isn’t enough and that viewers now want to interact in the world they have invested in.
He goes on to say that “[the show] can tell them that there will be an alien invasion at a certain place in the game, at a certain time, and to be there with all their friends and be ready. The outcome depends on them. And then that battle will be part of the universe in the show," as an example.
The story line will be determined by characters that have drawn interest in the online world, so you never know, your character maybe a future star!
"This will be a state-of-the art game and it will be a strong television show, and watching how those two things interact will be fascinating," Howe said.
No title, no more information, that’s all we got, but more details are expected in July at Comic-Con International in San Diego.
