Ship Simulator 2008

This is one for you modern-day pirates.  Ship Simulator 2008, released today in North America, is the next instalment of the swaggering simulators that represent the shipping world!

This years offering includes features like multiplayer, customisable mission editor and 16 new ships as well as San Francisco, Marseille and Southampton environments.
The multiplayer option does sound pretty cool, with downloadable player missions, free roaming, towing and chat, there does seem to be a strong community feel around the game.

As well as the above, the game offers 50 new “complex and challenging missions” as well as extensive “day, night and weather systems”.
With the new visible damage system, players can see the damage they’ve caused on their ships, therefore enabling them to maximise damage for their next go!

But I must be honest, how long would it take to initiate a crash, let alone sail the oceans of the world?  With all this talk of saving energy and being more healthy, I don’t see how sitting behind a computer depriving yourself of light and exercise to successfully captain a ferry from one side of the world to the other would help.

Although, I can’t really talk…I’m a complete flight sim freak….
