Anarchy Online Gets Virtual Item Sales

The news in from FunCom this afternoon is that they've now launched virtual item sales in Anarchy Online. Some developers and players like the idea of item sales and some don't, but the bottom line is that if you part with your cash you can now get your hands on some in-game goodies. Funcom do state they are making sure this new system does not affect game balance in any way although I'm pretty sure someone will find a way to skew things in their favour, they always do,

The first virtual items are being included in a new mini-expansion and includes hover-bikes, hover-boards, social clothing, pets and a luxury apartment. Players can purchase 'points' for either 10, 20 or 40 USD / EUR, where 100 points is the equivalent of 1 USD / EUR. The hover-board comes in at around 300 points in case you were wondering. For 2000 points you can actually buy the entire hover-board/hover-bike range as a special introductory offer.

As an extra incentive to keep playing AO, Funcom will be giving away set points to subscribers every month as a nice thank you bonus.

“This kind of system puts the choice in the hands of the players by allowing them to take as little or as much of the new content as they like,” said Craig Morrison, Game Director on Anarchy Online. “It really adds an extra dimension to what we can provide in terms of fun social items, designed to look cool while being something players don't feel forced into. That extra element of choice has allowed us to add a much broader range of items than we might if we were simply targeting it into a self contained expansion.”
