New Alone in the Dark Goes Episodic
 Paul Younger
When a the new Alone in the Dark was recently announced by Atari for the PC and Xbox 360 it bought back fond memories of the original and today Atari has revealed further information on the game structure for the forthcoming next-generation version of the survival horror series. Most intersting is the fact that the new game will feature an episodic game structure that according to Atari will "take inspiration from the presentation style and structure of a number of acclaimed and globally popular TV action dramas" and will be split into a 'season' style format.

Developer Eden games are wanting to draw the player in and keep a sustained game pace with a high level of narrative intensity, something that could work rather well in the survival horror genre. Each episode will comprise of 30-40 minutes of gameplay which will give players a quick fix and keep them hooked on the story, and like TV shows, before each episode begins players will be shown a story recap of the previous episode. Oh, and you can expect cliff hangers which will leave you wanting more. David Nadal, Game Director, Eden Games added:

“Our new format for Alone in the Dark greatly enhances the pace and tension, keeping players permanently hooked into the engrossing story surrounding the mysteries of Central Park and beyond.“You barely have time to breathe before the next cliffhanger hits you…”
It will be really intersting to see how this works and whether gamers will embrace the concept.
