HAWX Community Incensed Over Game Camera
 Andy Alderson

With the release of Ubisoft’s “FPS in the sky,” Tom Clancy’s HAWX, just around the corner, it seems as if there is already some discord in the fan community.

In a thread on the game’s official forums, dev team member GKane offered to answer community questions about the upcoming release, but got a little more than he bargained for. One question has become a sticking point, and that is whether the game’s advanced flying manoeuvres (Assistance Off mode) can be performed in the regular in-game viewGeneral Screenshots.  The answer, it would appear, is “no” and this has incensed more than a few posters in the thread.

“K, I played the demo. You said the reasons for not allowing me to use the cockpit view while I have the training wheels off would become clear”, said poster CaptainSyco.

“But they are not, now can you guys please add the cockpit view (the other views as well) to the Assistance Off mode? I won't be buying this game unless I can play it without training wheels while inside the cockpit. TBH, denying us that ability is rather insulting. It's like you're saying we're a bunch of idiot noobs that need to have our hands held or we'll plow into the ground.”

When the Assistance is turned off, the game switches to a third person camera and allows you to pull off more extreme attacking and evasive manoeuvres.

The dev team has stuck to its guns on the issue, posting the following comment:

"I have to clarify one of the first answers in the “Community Q&A”, regarding the camera views:
The view options are dependent on what Assistance mode you are in:

When using "assistance ON", you can access 3rd person camera with 360 degree controls, cockpit view, and 1st person camera.

When using "assistance OFF" you have access to the special dogfight camera – meaning the special dogfight camera is the only camera available in “Assistance OFF”; the reason for this is the specific design of this mode that can only take advantage of this particular camera."

We have contacted Ubi for comment on the issue, so watch this space. In the meantime, check out our preview and what we thought of the Assistance Off mode.
