Mozilla Nixes Firefox PS3 Rumour

Mozilla has responded to rumours that it is in talks with Sony to bring its Firefox web browser to the PS3. The rumour emerged earlier in the week, with supposed customer dissatisfaction with the PS3’s standard web browser being the catalyst for the talks. However, a representative from Mozilla today nixed the rumour."Nope - not sure how that rumor got started but it's been keeping us busy all day," the Mozilla rep told PS3 Center. So there you go.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Dated For February

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers will hit European Wiis on February.Taking place a thousand years after the original Crystal Chronicles game, the Yuke Tribe has apparently been all but annihilated through a war with the Lilty Tribe and the world is now all about science. A "rare breed of powerful beings" called crystal bearers exist in this era, who have "seemingly magical abilities" that leads the public to fear and hate them.Players take control of crystal bearer Layle, hired to escort the passenger airship Alexis - the "pinnacle of Lilty technology" - which comes under attack from monsters, potentially led by a mysterious adversary who had supposedly vanished from the world. Presumably a Yuke, then. The Crystal Bearers has real-time combat and action based gameplay, but most interesting of all is its touted open-world style of play. We expect we'll find out more closer to its European Wii release on 5 February 2010.

Still Looking For That Church Simulator?

Prayer Works interactive has released details of its upcoming church simulator, Mass: We Pray. The game apparently ships with motion sensitive crucifix controllers as well as a kneeler and includes such activities as sprinkling holy water, the sign of the cross and holy communion. Now, obviously, before you assume we’ve lost our minds we know it isn’t real - in fact it’s quite a clever promo campaign for Dante’s Inferno – but we liked the press release and video so much, we thought you should have a look too.

King's Bounty: Armored Princess Hits Steam

King's Bounty: Armored Princess has been released into the digital wilds. The sequel to sleeper hit King's Bounty: The Legend puts players in the metal shoes of Princess Amelie, searching the world for her mentor Bill Gilbert. Which puts me in mind of Bill Roper and Ron Gilbert, but then, I have problems.Expect the usual smattering of RPG conventions and turn-based strategy, with Rage spirits replaced by an oh-so-cute dragon which will doubtless assist against the hordes you'll have to slay.If it's anything like the first, it will be absolutely brilliant, and it's now on Steam for the princessly sum of £26.99 GBP.Check out our review of the original King's Bounty: The Legend over here while you wait for Armored Princess, which you've clearly just bought, to download.

Online Co-Op For Kane And Lynch Sequel

Kane & Lynch: Dog Days, recently announced by Square Enix and developer IO Interactive, will switch the focus from family-focused Kane to self-medicating lunatic Lynch as the pair find themselves in Shanghai chasing a high-paying job.The first Kane and Lynch game, released to middling reviews back in 2007, only featured offline co-op so the inclusion of an online option is a welcome addition. It was also recently announced that movie studio Lionsgate has picked up the Kane and Lynch license for a film adaptation which will reportedly star Bruce Willis. Thanks Kotaku.

Arriving next Tuesday will be open-world crime sequel Saints Row 2 and LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures.Perhaps overshadowed by other big releases this year, Saints Row 2 is a wonderfully over-the-top affair which proved to be great fun, especially in two player co-op mode. Well worth a punt, we say.

Dark Void Movie In The Works

Brad Pitt's production company, Plan B Entertainment, is working on a theatrical adaptation of Dark Void with Capcom.Dark Void is a third-person shooter with a mix of aerial and ground combat which tells the tale of a pilot called Will who ends up passing through the Bermuda Triangle into The Void, an alternate dimension populated by aliens plotting to take over civilisation. And Nikola Tesla.Which means that a theatrical version should be a fairly entertaining prospect, particularly when it's a "potential starring vehicle for Pitt."The movie deal comes about through Plan B Entertainment's "Creative Partnership" with Reliance BIG Entertainment and Capcom. Reliance's chairman, Amit Khanna, said "We are delighted that our Creative Partnership with Plan B has led to this agreement to develop the Dark Void motion picture based on Dark Void along with Capcom and we look forward to future projects from them."So yes, the Dark Void motion picture is based on the Dark Void game due out in Europe in 22 January, which was based on the Dark Void idea by someone at Capcom.Check out our Dark Void preview, based on playtime with Dark Void, based on a Capcom Dark Void idea, to see why it could be a deeply entertaining post-Christmas game over here.

The Saboteur’s Wanted Levels Explained

Pandemic has revealed how the ‘wanted' system will work in its upcoming WWII open world actioner The Saboteur. In an interview with IncGamers, Pandemic's Tom French explained the various wanted levels."What happens is, level one, you have standard Wehrmacht soldiers, the vehicles are pretty much like Kubelwagens, which are kinda like little jeeps, and then motorcycles with sidecars," said French."Next level you start getting heavier soldiers and trucks starting to pour in more guys. Next level you start getting APCs with mounted guns on them attacking you, heavier soldiers inside of them."French added that, at this point, the player will start to think about the superior weapons that can be acquired from the higher wanted levels."Next level those APCs will start showing up with terror squad soldiers in them that are heavily armoured, but the risk/reward at that point becomes "Now I want those terror squad guns," because the only way you can really get them is through actually killing terror squads, or get ammo for them is by farming it off the dead bodies of these guys."So then you start pushing that, risking diving down in there - because you could be hiding up on the roofs. You can get to one or two hiding up on the roofs, but you're going to start running out of ammo. Dive into the situation, grab one of their guns, stock up on ammo, grab maybe a rocket launcher."French revealed that things get even more intense at four and five stars. "At level four the Zeppelins start coming in, attacking you, shoot that thing down, more terror squads. Level five, tanks show up, planes start strafing you, everything that pours out of an APC is a terror squad. So it really just gets big in scale and it gets really over the top and fun."More fun, we hope, than the recent Pandemic closure...

Microsoft “Blown Away” By Sky Response

Microsoft is apparently very pleased with the response to the Sky Player service on Xbox LIVE. Neil Thompson, Microsoft senior regional director for northern Europe, told GamesIndustry.biz that despite some initial problems with the service, there has been an impressive response from Xbox LIVE users.“Exactly. We were blown away - literally - by the response we had, and we took some flak, probably fairly,” said Thompson, presumably unclear on the meaning of the word “literally.”“We didn't scale to quite the scale we should have, and I take that criticism on board and we've learned from it. But now it's up and running, people are loving it, the subscription rates, the download rates for the application and so on are just blowing my mind away, they're blowing the people at Sky's minds away.”However, it seems the popular BBC iPlayer, recently made available for PS3 and Wii users, will not be making an appearance on LIVE.“We have no plans for iPlayer on Xbox at this point,” he said.
