PSP Firmware Update

Sony has released the latest firmware update for the PSP. Firmware update v6.20 allows users to import video and photo playlists from the PC and PS3 to the PSP (via Media Go 1.3 for PC to PSP).The main new addition is the Digital Comics reader which is now available to download although, handily, the comic store won’t launch until next month in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Metal Gear Solid Due On PSN This Week

Sony has announced Metal Gear Solid will be arriving on the PlayStation Network this week.The PSone title was the series’ first 3D outing and was rightfully hailed as a classic by critics and fans alike. The game is due to hit PSN on 19 November and will set you back £7.99 GBP.Also to follow are the PSP MGS titles - Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops +, and the Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel – with release dates and pricing yet to be confirmed.

Konami has issued the US release date for Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.
The game, a re-envisioning of the very first Silent Hill game, sees Harry Mason searching the deserted streets of Silent Hill for his daughter Cheryl, and Americans will be able to take part in the search on 8 December on Wii, and a little later on PS2 and PSP.What's different this time around? For starters, there's a psych profile feature that rearranges the game world based on how you play, which apparently even bases things off, say, the first thing you look at when you walk into a room. More interesting still is that there's no combat. While you're still going to be chased by nightmarish creatures, you can't fight back.Which sounds fantastic to me, but then I do like my horror games. If you fancy some more details on what you can expect from the game, have a look at this news item, and check out our video interview while you're at it.Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is due out in the US on 8 December on Wii, with the PSP and PS2 versions "following shortly." We've been told that we can expect it over here in February.

SouthPeak Picks Up TNA Impact

SouthPeak Interactive has revealed it has acquired the license for the TNA series of wrestling games. Speaking in the company’s Q1 earnings call, president and CEO Melanie Mroz revealed that SouthPeak picked up the TNA license following the demise of Midway earlier in the year.“In this quarter we purchased, in bankruptcy court, certain assets relating to video games based on the TNA Impact Wrestling brand that were previously owned and under development by Midway Games,” said Mroz.“We anticipate to complete development on our first SKU with this franchise and launch our first original TNA product this winter, entitled TNA Impact: Cross the Line for the PSP and PSPgo.”TNA Impact was released by Midway in September last year on PS2, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 to lukewarm reviews. A sequel was reportedly in the works but was subsequently scuppered by Time Warner’s acquisition of Midway in July this year.

LittleBigPlanet PSP Dated For Europe

Sony has confirmed the PSP version of LittleBigPlanet will be released in Europe before the end of the month. Speaking to CVG, a Sony rep revealed the impressive platformer will hit European store shelves on 20 November, three days after the US release.Check out our review of the PS3 version of the game here.

Activision Blizzard Results Better Than Expected

Activision held their quarterly conference call last night which revealed better than expected results.Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Guitar Hero and World of Warcraft were hot topics in last night's conference call which revealed that Activison Blizzard surpassed their $700 million quarter projection. The company's net revenues were $755 million.Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, was keen to highlight that "the Guitar Hero franchise was the #1 best-selling third-party franchise in North America and Europe. We continued to see strong sales for Call of Duty World at War and associated map packs, which year to date have sold more than seven and half million units".Activision Blizzard are continuing to do well in the harsh economic climate and with Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Tony Hawk Ride, Guitar Hero, DJ Hero and World of Warcraft all top titles for this holiday season, the company has a strong line-up.

Sony Reveals Titles For European Video Service

Sony has announced a number of titles for the forthcoming European Video Service.Among the titles confirmed to be available before Christmas are Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Hannah Montana: The Movie, Bruno, Angels & Demons, Casino Royale, Crank 2: High Voltage and The Hills Have Eyes.The Video Service is due to launch across the UK, France, Germany and Spain later this month with other markets set to follow next year. Users will be available to buy or rent the latest releases and download them onto their PS3 or PSP.

Next week's Rock Band DLC is all about the Foo Fighters, Nirvana, and Joan Jett.The Foos have four tracks coming, while Nirvana has three, and Joan Jett will contribute a single track to the Rock Band Music Store on Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii next week.The tracks will hit Xbox 360 and Wii on 3 November, while PS3 users will, as usual, be waiting until 5 November. Konami Praises PES Revitalisation

Konami believes that Pro Evolution Soccer 2010's "revitalis[ation]" may have been the key to it topping the charts.
In case you missed it, Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 took the number one spot in the UK All Formats Chart this week, and Konami is happy.The company, speaking to MCV, apparently believes that the success of the game is down to the improvements made following advice of long-term series fans."We are delighted to see PES 2010 top the chart against some incredibly strong competition," said Konami GM Peter Stone. That's nice, isn't it? Konami admitting that FIFA is strong competition? Stone continued: "With the likes of Forza 3 and WWE Smackdown released on the same day, it is great to see our revitalised and much improved crowd-pleaser emerge triumphant." Oh. Never mind then.Still, Konami has every right to be happy - topping the UK All Formats Chart is no easy exercise. Admittedly, PES 2010 released on almost every platform under the sun while Forza Motorsport 3, in second place, was a 360 exclusive - but that's a damn big exclusive.We're not sure we agree with their reasoning, though. Major football games tend to do quite well over here, and while we did think PES 2010 showed signs of improvement, we also felt that FIFA 10 was probably a better game.

Cho Aniki Zero Coming To PSP

Aksys Games has announced that it will be bringing Cho Aniki Zero to the PSP next year.If you're wondering what the big deal is, you've clearly never heard of the Cho Aniki series - a set of side-on shooters which tend to revolve around half-naked, oiled-up men shooting other half-naked, oiled-up men. Often in camp poses, or sitting in baths full of flowers. Or dancing on flowers. Or wearing fairy wings. Or... yeah.Apparently, Cho Aniki Zero "brings manliness back to the old-school shoot-em-up genre" and allows players to "battle through five man-rageous levels of brotherly love and muscle-on-muscle madness" - but with multiple paths and endings.Better still, collecting enough "Man Protein" lets you "unleash the devastating attack of the Men's Beam," which, knowing this game, could well be exactly what it sounds like.Cho Aniki Zero is due out in Spring 2010 through digital distribution on the PSP. Wolves And Zombies Hit Rock Band Music Store

Rob Zombie and Wolfmother are among the artists coming to the Rock Band Music Store next week.Everything's getting a bit spooky for Halloween, it seems, which explains Rob Zombie and somewhat explains the Wolfmother shoe-horning, since wolves are big and scary.It doesn't really explain Liz Phair or Morningwood, though, as those are the other two artists. I mean, I find Liz Phair scary, but I think I'm probably the only one.Anyway! The Wii, 360, and PS3 Rock Band Music Stores will be getting the following tracks next week, on 27 October for 360 and Wii, and 29 October on PS3:Rob Zombie - BurnRob Zombie - DragulaRob Zombie - SuperbeastWolfmother - New Moon RisingWolfmother - PilgrimWolfmother - SundialWolfmother - White UnicornWolfmother - WomanLiz Phair - Rock MeMorningwood - Best of Me *Morningwood - Sugarbaby *All tracks are available singly, and the Rob Zombie and Wolfmother tracks are available in packs on 360 and PS3.
