MMO Weekly 30/12
 Jeff Hollis

Ah yes, friends and neighbours, it's that time again – time to gather around the campfire, grab yourself a nice cup of hot chocolate, and hear the holiday tales of MMORPG gaming.  Yes, the tales are old and familiar – geeks who fell in love with their guild-mates, geeks who didn't get what they wanted for Christmas, or geeks gone wild over some minor in-game snafu – but we love these old tales all the same.  And thus, without further ado, we bring you this week's holiday edition of MMO Weekly!

Let us consider, for a moment, the size of bunnies.  In almost every MMO I've ever played, they're small, innocuous, cute little animals.  They just add a little flavour to the game.  They're innocent woodland creatures, making the forests of your favorite MMO a bit more lifelike.

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich KingUnless, of course, they somehow become HUGE.  A thread over at WorldofWar.Net explores this burning issue which, quite frankly, isn't actually burning.  In fact, it appears to be little more than a very unusual server glitch that affected only bunnies.  The first poster included several screenshots of a gigantic bunny – at least 15 feet tall – which had been encountered in the woods.  A second poster concurred that bunnies are a problem pointing out, while running across a frozen lake, it was populated by hundreds of regular-sized bunnies.  The contributor also included a video of all those poor, cold bunnies hopping across the snow.  Quirky.

While on the topic of video, let's get in the mood for some holiday music.  The Avatards have put up a nice, Christmassy tune, entitled “All I Want for Christmas is a Blue”.  It chronicles the tale of a girl who only gets green drops when she does instance runs.  Thus she does what any reasonable WoW girl would do in that set of circumstances – make a machinima featuring her singing, with gnomes as backup singers.  That, friends, is certain to melt even ol' Jack Frost's heart.

If you've always wanted to be a superhero your options have been limited.  You can play City of DC Universe OnlineHeroes now, or you can wait for either DC Universe Online or Champions Online to launch in 2009.  Now, it seems, you have a third option:  you can don your cape and be a superhero, for real.  According to this registry of superheroes, there are more than 200 such individuals in the US.  These folks put on costumes and masks, and they really do go out and fight crime.  (The moment I heard this story, I decided that to install my own personal Bat-Signal on my roof.  It's a big spotlight with a cryptic symbol embedded on the glass.  If I ever have any trouble, I'm not calling the police, I'm turning that sucker on, and waiting for my local superhero to show up) [Ed – You are a policeman which worries me].

Are you gay?  Jewish?  Do you like to say 'Hello' to the people you meet online?  Well, that's just too bad; those things are now forbidden, at least in one online social space.  Of course, we're talking about Sony's Home, where those things are seemingly taboo topics.
