Rise of the Tomb Raider FAQ offers vague answers about exclusivity23 Aug 2014
The Rise of the Tomb Raider exclusivity deal mystery train rumbles on, as Crystal Dynamics publish an FAQ that doesn’t really answer all that much. It’s been known for quite some time that Rise of the Tomb Raider will be a timed exclusive of some sort for Microsoft, but this might have been a good chance to clear up some additional details.
Instead, probably for contractual reasons, Crystal Dynamics have said a big load of nothing. The post re-confirms that the deal for the game is a timed exclusive (“Yes, our deal with Microsoft has a duration.”) but doesn’t offer any helpful answers like, say, what additional platforms the title might come to afterwards.
There is one interesting point to note, though. The post states “We aren’t discussing details of the deal, and are focused on delivering a great game on Xbox One and Xbox 360.” That means Rise of the Tomb Raider is going to be a cross-generational game. Not exactly amazing information, and something that’s either meaningless or of possible detriment to any eventual PC version, but it’s something.
Crystal Dynamics also say that “we certainly didn’t intend to cause any confusion with the announcement,” which gave me a bit of a chuckle. No, there was certainly no careful attempt to mislead people with very precise (yet vague) wording at the Microsoft Gamescom event. None at all.
So, still no direct confirmation of a PC version, but I’d be very surprised not to see one six months or so after the Xbox One/360 versions.Related to this story
