Resident Evil remake coming in 2015
Capcom has announced that Resident Evil will be getting a prettified remake in early 2015.
Resident Evil will feature higher resolutions, upgraded textures, 5.1 surround sound support, and 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios. All of which is fair enough, but here’s the really good news: the controls have also been rejigged. You’ll have the option to play with either the old “tank” controls, or with a modern-day “the character moves in the direction you push” control scheme. Will wonders never cease?
Resident Evil is the original survival horror game, except that it’s not because that was Alone in the Dark. Still, much like Doom to Wolfenstein 3D, Resi‘s the smash hit that popularised the genre. It sees the STARS team investigating an abandoned mansion, only to come face-to-face with zombies, mutant dogs, giant spiders, and other biological monstrosities. Players can opt to take control of either Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, each of whom has their own unique skills and path through the game. Jill, for instance, is famous for being the master of unlocking.
Resident Evil is due out via digital distribution in early 2015. Alas, it probably won’t be using the original “Jill Sandwich” dialogue. There are a few comparison screenshots available but they’re so tiny that they’re honestly irrelevant, so instead, have some character renders.
