Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution - 04

Is it just me, or does Shukaku look morbidly obese?

If you really enjoy Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution when it comes out, then Clone Teams will let you play even when you’re not playing.

Today, Bandai Namco have announced a load of new features. The metaphorically big one is probably the aforementioned addition of Network Clone Teams, which has your online characters fight for you while you’re off doing something else – they’ll “train and gather items”, apparently. I suspect this basically means that while you’re not playing, your online profile will still be playing, and will be getting a few bits and bobs for you to “ooh” and “aah” at when you get back to the game. And speaking of online characters, you’ll be able to customise your online fighters with all sorts of ridiculous items to make them look very silly. Or “cool”, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Judging by the screenshots below, Network Clone Teams will be AI-controlled foes you’ll occasionally have the chance to fight in Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution‘s online mode. At least, I think that’s how it works. I mean, that shot below has “Network Clone Appears” and “Win for an escalated chance to get a rare item”, so.

The literally big addition is Gaara, the Fifth Kazekage. While not the biggest chap on the battlefield, he’ll have the ability to summon Shukaku and go all One-Tail mode on people, which will make him massive. I’d always assumed that Gaara was going to be in Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution, but it’s good to know he’ll be able to somehow call on Shukaku’s power despite That Thing That Happened back at the start of Shippuden.

There seems to be quite an emphasis on the online multiplayer this time around, so fingers crossed that the PC netcode will be up to the task. The PC version is due out via Steam on 16 September, and a batch of new screens – showing off Gaara, as well as all the aforementioned features – are below.
