Hopefully the delay isn’t so they can incorporate a giant spider as a new romanceable NPC, specifically to annoy and upset me.

Dragon Age: Inquisition has been pushed back from October to November, giving rise to all sorts of “nobody expected the Inquisition anyway” jokes.

According to a post on the official Dragon Age: Inquisition website – which is currently unreadable, possibly due to everyone rushing over there to find out what’s going on – the game has been delayed to give it a little extra polish.

“I’m writing to let you know that Dragon Age: Inquisition has a new release date of November 18, 2014 in North America (November 21st in EU),” wrote the game’s executive producer Mark Darrah (according to NeoGAF, as the site isn’t loading). “We appreciate the enormous support we’ve received from all of you to get to this point, and while this extra few weeks may not seem like a lot, I know the game you’ll play will be all the better for it.”

I’m not quite sure how much of this to believe. My bullshit sense is tingling a little, but only a little. I can see three possibilities.

The first is that this is entirely truthful, and the game needs a couple of extra weeks of polish. The second is that October is just too full of games and EA thinks it’ll sell better in November, but that’s not an excuse that would fly with the public. The third is that the game needs a lot more work, but it absolutely cannot be delayed later than November or it will miss Black Friday in the USA and the holiday season in general. Alas, we’re unlikely to find out which of these is correct, even if we had an inquisition of our own.

Still, I suppose we can be fairly certain that the game will be in a better state in November than it would’ve been in October. We’ll let you know whether that state is actually good or not when we get our hands on a review copy, which should be sometime before 18 November. Which also means I will probably be reviewing Dragon Age: Inquisition and Far Cry 4 at the same time. Around my birthday. It’s going to be a busy month, that one.
