Bear-knuckle brawler Fist of Awesome comes to Steam

I’m sick of this sort of exploitation in games. It’s unbearable.

– the game that gave birth to a million bear-related puns – has suplexed its way onto Steam.

Fist of Awesome casts you as a time-travelling lumberjack named Tim Burr who battles bears in order to save humanity, and I think that may be the finest sentence I have ever written. It’s a side-scrolling beat-’em-up in the vein of Streets of Rage, only instead of punching fat men and bikers and implausibly-clothed women wielding electrified whips, you’re decking weasels and bears and other forms of angry wildlife. PETA would have a field day with this one, I’m sure.

Because this apparently isn’t enough text to qualify as a proper news story, I’d like to point out that the email I received about this game claims its original prototype was created as a last-minute Valentine’s Day gift, because no woman worth dating can resist a home-made game about punching bears in the face. So not only do you get a game about punching bears in the face, but you also get romantic advice! Fist of Awesome really is amazing.

Fist of Awesome is £4.99 on Steam (discounted to a more bearable price of £4.24 until 7 May), and our own Peter Parrish described it as “far from grizzly.” You might want to paws to have a read of his impressions before you snatch it up, just to see if it’s your sort of thing.
