EA closes their Mythic studio29 May 2014
EA has decided to pull the plug on their Mythic studio today. Most PC gamnrs will know the name Mythic from their work on the Dark Age of Camelot and the now closed down Warhammer Online as both titles significantly contributed to the evolution of the MMO genre.
EA issued the following statement this evening confirming the closure.
“We are closing the EA Mythic location in Fairfax, Virginia, as we concentrate mobile development in our other studio locations. We are working with all impacted employees to provide assistance in finding new opportunities, either within EA or with other companies via an upcoming job fair.”
Mythic was founded way back in 1995 and was picked up by EA in 2006 around the release of Warhammer Online which was eventually closed down last December. In more recent times the studio had been working on mobile titles including the much criticised Dungeon Keeper. The studio was also renamed a few times from Mythic Entertainment, Bioware Mythic,Mythic, well it’s hard to keep up with it all. The writing was probably on the wall when EA decided to move the studio on to mobile titles.
Fortunately Dark Age of Camelot survived after it was handed over to Broadsword Online Games which was founded by Mythic co-founder Rob Denton.
