Dark Souls “seeking other avenues” for its online functionality20 May 2014
“With the release of Dark Souls II,” reads the post, “many players have been wondering about the continued support of Dark Souls I. We thoroughly appreciate the dedicated fans who are adventuring through Lordran (maybe for the first time!) and we’d like to clarify a few points.”
Firstly, Dark Souls will apparently remain functional on Games for Windows LIVE (boo, hiss) for the foreseeable future. Which is actually not very foreseeable, since Games for Windows LIVE is due to shut down in July.
Secondly – and more importantly – “Bandai Namco Games is currently seeking avenues to continue support and ensure the functionality of Dark Souls on other services.” Which sounds like they’re trying to find a way to keep Dark Souls‘ online functionality up even after Games for Windows LIVE shuts down.
More details will apparently be coming over the next few months, presumably after those avenues are sought. Maybe shifting over to another service will result in the online functionality actually functioning! Or maybe that’s just down to the netcode. Hard to say.
