Look! A crossbow!

The latest DayZ Standalone update from Dean Hall covers news on fireplaces, physics and mouse control. Big update this month.

Work continues on DayZ and they are still tackling the issues with the client and server and they believe this is what’s hampering the player limit going over 100. Fireplaces are still being worked on and the good news is they are ready for the “final implementation” of these with the ability to ignite flammable objects. Work continues on the game mechanics to enable players to set these alight.

Throwing is coming to the experimental build servers next week but ragdoll won’t make it in for that update. New throwing animations have also been created so players can “power up” a throw.

The experimental server update next week will also see the arrival of the new player mouse control but it’s still in early testing. However, this is a change players have been wanting to see for quite some time so at least this first update is a start to improved controls in the game.

The art team are focusing firmly on the survival aspect of the game with the creation of new food items and wildlife models. Weapons are also receiving attention with the first P1 pistol complete and the AKM nearing completion before hitting the servers. The first SMG for the game is also nearly ready.

Characters will have new head choices to add more variety to the game and they’ve created a  Soviet-style officer hat and a tracksuit. Police, EMT, and firefighters are also on the cards according to lead artist Chris Torchia.

Next week will be a reasonably big week for DayZ players what with the addition of throwing and a first look at the changes to the mouse control.

this is so awesome! i can’t wait to find a crossbow and be like daryl Dixon lol! But a fun thing day z should add is maybe if you find a backpack, there would be something in. Like rotten fruit, or if lucky ,ammo, water, soda , food, or even a gun. Because if you think about it, in a zombie apocalypse, there wouldn’t be a random empty backpack just sitting in the middle of the floor. I love this game so much already and this is just a thought.

This game is really fun. I think in a future update there should be a hip holster for your pistol so the chest holster doesn’t completely replace the vest.

yes. you can handcuff people, and put burlap sacks on their heads. Force feed them things like rotten fruit, bottles of disinfectant, take/give them blood until they die.

So what you’re saying is that videogames still have a really long way to go before they catch up to US detention camps, then.

hmm not sure I would enjoy that, since I would be the one dying most of time, cant you just commit suicide instantly or rage quit to avoid?

OK I’ve been all over the web on diferent browsers and search engines with every possible way to ask when the F**K this new patch is coming out the only way to contact the dev team seems to be through twitter and flikr I tried to use both and figured out that both programs are the biggest piece of $**T waste of space and time next to the decorative statues and other shit people spend money on for absolutely no reason. If the DEV team could be so nice as to actually communicate with people through facebook (which I hate less than twitter) because the fact that my questions require a more than the 10 word max that Twatter allows.

    1. As far as we know, it was coming but then PAX hit and then nothing. It’s typical DayZ dev timeframes :)

I really hope they can put tents in this game, so you can take a rest,or even make a camp. I hope they also tell us when the new updates are comming through. Smoke grenades would also be dope, or any other type of explosive shit,, like homemade molotov with the alcohol bottles and rags.

I bought arma 3 the other day and after playing arma 3, I cant see playing this pos again. I mean seriously, is it that difficult to put bikes in the game? “it’s an alpha” oh stfu. they haven’t done shit but count the alpha money.
