Origin ditches physical copies from their store
Love it or loathe it there’s changes over at Origin that will affect every PC gamer who prefers a hard copy of their games.
EA and Origin has announced that they will no longer be selling physical copies of PC games from 4 April. According to Origin the changes only impact around 10% of their users and the shopping experience “hasn’t changed one single bit”.
“But if you’re that 1% who still desires a physical collection, we want to let you know that Origin won’t be able to fulfill that need beginning April 4th. We’ll still be here when you transition your gaming habits to the wonders of digital downloads.
Digital is fast and convenient. Origin’s focus is to give gamers the best experience, and going all-digital will make that possible”
With these changes it’s going to be a little harder to get hold of physical copies of PC games as many retailers have poor stock or in some cases don’t even stock PC games at all. Having said that, most PC gamers are used to digital downloads and they are more convenient if you’ve got the bandwidth. If on the other hand your ISP is complete arse then you’re going to be stuck with hunting down copies at retailers.
