DirectX 12 details will be rendered by Microsoft at GDC

With all this talk of Valve pushing for OpenGL and AMD’s Mantle API, Microsoft is reminding everybody that DirectX 12 is still a thing. A teaser page (oh boy, API collections have teaser pages now) from the company makes it clear that we’ll hearing more about DirectX 12 at this year’s Game Developer Conference in San Francisco.

GDC runs from 17 March to 21 March, but the date for Microsoft’s chat is 20 March. The session summary has this to say:

For nearly 20 years, DirectX has been the platform used by game developers to create the fastest, most visually impressive games on the planet.

However, you asked us to do more. You asked us to bring you even closer to the metal and to do so on an unparalleled assortment of hardware. You also asked us for better tools so that you can squeeze every last drop of performance out of your PC, tablet, phone and console.

Come learn our plans to deliver.

The inclusion of AMD, Nvidia and Intel logos on Microsoft’s announcement page suggests, as you’d expect, that those companies will be supporting the DirectX 12 APIs.
