La-Mulana 2 fully funded

If it’s anything like the first game, that tablet in the bottom right will give an incredibly oblique hint to something you’ll need to do 15 hours further into the game – possibly involving standing in a specific spot, pressing pause, and waiting for 30 seconds.

There was no doubt in mind that La-Mulana 2 would get funded. Never. Never ever. Even though I had a nightmare last week in which it was sat at 70% funding with two hours to go. But now, with six days to go, the sequel to the notoriously difficult platform-based brainmelter has hit its $200,000 USD funding goal.

It’s actually surpassed that and hit a couple of stretch goals, but they’re fairly minor ones. At the time of writing the Kickstarter is sat on $201,920, which puts it past the “Curry Party” and “Curry Hell” goals. The first means that the La-Mulana 2 team will sit down and have a curry party on Twitch.TV. The second means that La-Mulana 2 director Takumi Naramura will eat curry three times a day, for three days, on the basis that it will “make him stronger, allowing him the ability to make an even better game!”

I suspect that what it’ll really do is make his bowels looser, allowing him the ability to irreparably violate a toilet in a single, strained moment of explosive release, but what do I know? I don’t do much in the way of making games or eating curry.

The next stretch goal is as $230,000. If hit, that’ll throw in “Father’s Diary” – a mode which “reveals far more about the story and world of La-Mulana.” Then you’ve got an in-game bestiary, and a harder-than-Hell-Temple level, and the ability to play as a new character with a new story on completion. I somehow doubt we’ll hit them all, but I can dream.
