Kickstarter hacked, pray that your password isn’t 123password
Kickstarter is the latest company to fall victim to data hacking and has issued a security notice through its blog suggesting that people change their Kickstarter account password. According to the crowdfunding platform, they were alerted by law enforcement officials that hackers had gained access to certain customer details.
That security loophole is now said to be closed, and Kickstarter is adamant that “no credit card data of any kind” was accessed in this breach. The company also says that they only have evidence of unauthorised activity on two accounts in total.
However, “usernames, email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, and encrypted passwords” were accessed, so as a precaution it would probably be wise to change your Kickstarter account password. Especially if it’s the same one you use for your secret Swiss bank account.
“To change your password, log in to your Kickstarter account and look for the banner at the top of the page to create a new, secure password,” the blog post states. It adds that the company is very sorry about all this and has improved security systems “in numerous ways.” We’ll just have to guess what those ways are, as the statement doesn’t elaborate.Related to this story
