Dark Souls 2 screenshots show stats, freaky character creation, more

dark souls 2 (10)

You can now wear a dragon on your face. As if that will help you stay alive any longer.

The first Dark Souls wasn’t exactly a looker in early screenshots, and its true beauty was only really revealed when the PC version unlocked higher resolution versions of the textures. I’m having to keep that in mind when looking at these new Dark Souls 2 images because … well … the texture quality isn’t the best.

I know, that’s shallow as hell, and what matters is how it plays. But it’s weird, because the Dark Souls 2 beta footage (which, like these screenshots, is from the PS3 version) always looks better than this. Maybe somebody keeps forgetting to switch on the full lighting model when they take images. Or the Namco screenshot guy just isn’t that great. I don’t know.

Anyway, here are lots of images featuring some of the game’s starting classes (Knight, Wanderer, Deprived, Explorer etc,) a few stats screens and some Souls-tastic character creation screens. Nice to see “Hormones” making a reappearance as a slider.

Dark Souls 2 is coming to the PC at some point, but nobody quite knows when.

Could do with a few more Hairstyles, but would rather have a larger weapon/class choice as I don’t get to see hairstyles that much in Dark Souls.

First: Dark Souls 1 WAS a looker in screenshots. The reason Dark Souls 2 screenshots look worse is because they’re compressed to hell and they’re taken from strange, zoomed-up POVs.

Second: The DSFix mod didn’t unlock higher resolution textures. It unlocked a higher resolution output for the game. There is a HUGE difference. The textures were the same resolution, but they could be seen with more detail because the game’s output resolution increased.

Third: The textures in Dark Souls 2 are awesome. Problem is, they aren’t filtered and, again, the images are compressed. I mod textures, I know what high and low resolution textures look like. The people complaining about texturesin Dark Souls 2 have no clue what they’re talking about. Yes, 90% of the internet community for DkS 2 has no clue what it’s talking about. Shocker, right?

Fourth: The Dark Souls 2 screenshots are noticeably worse than the videos, which makes me think that yes, indeed, either lighting effects are turned off in the screens, or the best looking videos are from the PC version.

This article was kinda crap shallow I know but it was. First you know they game looks amazing unless these screens are actually the first the author has seen iof the game especially for last gen now. 2nd to the author and the guy in the comments all the gameplay has been done on ps3 . So stop the PC master race bs I have great gaming rig but sorry the souls games are just better with a controller, I know you can use a controller on pc but the port wasnt that great for a while after launch, graphics don’t make a game. But ya the whole shitting on the screens guy was uncalled for. You prolly have seen some sort if gameplay of dark souls 2. Therea beta footage everywhere so idk why u said it might be footage from pc when the beta was only for ps3.
