Day One: Garry's Incident

Any excuse to use this screenshot, basically.

Bundle Stars’ latest bundle, aptly titled the Brutal Bundle, is pretty much the definition of a mixed bag. Why is it aptly titled? You’ll find out, when I completely abuse the word “brutal” to describe each of the games in it!

On the  “pretty good” side, you’ve got the extellent Tropico 4: Steam Special Edition, which lets you take the role of a BRUTAL dictator ruling over a tropical archipelago. There’s Stealth Bastard Deluxe: Tactical Espionage Arsehole, a side-on stealth platformer with a BRUTAL level of difficulty. There’s Port Royale 3, a game that has you running a Caribbean port with BRUTAL efficiency, which Peter tells me is “okay if you like trade and are German”. There’s Steel Storm: Complete Edition, a BRUTAL top-down arcade shooter.

On the “hmm” side of things – which may or may not equate to “I haven’t played these and know little about them besides that” – there’s Earth 2150 Trilogy, a trio of RTS games which have you commanding armies in BRUTAL battles. There’s King’s Bounty: Legions True Tactician Ultimate Pack, a load of stuff for free-to-play title King’s Bounty: Legions, the title of which makes a BRUTAL mockery of the English language. True Tactician Ultimate Pack? Pah. There’s Iron Sky: Invasion, a cheesy tie-in to a cheesy movie. Then there’s Naval Warfare, which is apparently a buggy, uneven, confused, but vaguely entertaining twin-stick shooter.

Finally, on the “oh dear” side of things, we have the BRUTALLY awful Day One: Garry’s Incident, and the no-single-player, no-team-customisation, nobody-playing-it-online-anymore BRUTAL sports game Dungeonbowl.

$5.97 USD nets you the lot. There’s an awful lot of “hmm” in there, but $6 is worth it for Tropico 4 alone, and – mixed bag or not – I daresay you’ll get at least some entertainment out of almost every game in there. Hop on over to Bundle Stars if you fancy making a purchase.
