dungeon of the endless

Dungeon of the Endless, Amplitude Studios’ roguelike dungeon defence game, has arrived on Steam Early Access.

In case you’ve forgotten, this is the game teased back in August which marries the Endless Space universe to some top-down monster-bashing mechanics. You’ll have to form a team of heroes, build some defences in your dungeon, and then fend off foes to survive. And possibly reach an exit? I’m not… I’m not quite sure how it works.

Either way, this is a very early alpha build – it’s listed as 0.1.0, and the release notes make it pretty clear there’s a lot to be added. Right now there are seven heroes, randomly generated dungeons, ten defence modules, seven monsters, and 46 items. Later builds will see the addition of active and passive skills for heroes, a tech tree, meta progression and different game starts (which I’m assuming means “success in one game will likely unlock new toys for future runs”), 30 heroes, and plenty more monsters, environments, modules, items, etc.

If this sounds so amazing you want to jump in right now then you’ve got two options available to you. The Pixel Pack is the cheaper option at £7.49 – this’ll net you the alpha and all subsequent versions (including release), the official soundtrack (available at release), and a community badge. Alternatively, you can plump for the Founder Pack at £11.24. This one contains all of the above plus a unique hero, an in-game ship pack with some exclusive wotsits, 50% off Steam coupons for both Endless Space and Endless Space: Disharmony, the Vaulters faction for the latter, Vaulters skins for Endless Legend, and another community badge. Whew.

Note that those are the current prices, which are 25% off the normal prices for some unspecified length of time. The regular prices are £9.99 and £14.99.
