Star Citizen

It’s the weekend and as a backer of Star Citizen I always check in to see if the Cloud Imperium team have managed to raise another $1m. No shock this week then as they’ve just revealed that $26m in funding has now been reached.

This new goal unlocks enhanced capital ship systems:

In addition to the command and control systems we’ve already outlined, we’re going to expand capital ship functions! Lead a damage control team to fight fires and repair key systems during battle, control internal bulkheads to slow boarders and man a number of consoles, like navigation and engineering, that will make commanding a capital ship feel even more immersive.

To celebrate this latest achievement, the very first in-engine shots of the Idris corvette’s interior have been released and these are pretty damn stunning.

So what’s up next as the funding steams ahead toward that $30m mark? First of all the $28m goal has to be reached and they’ve revealed that a new starter ship will be created if that goal is met.

The team at Consolidated Outland has decided to take Roberts Space Industries head on in 2944 by premiering the Mustang personal spacecraft. We will use these additional resources to create another ship company and starter ship for Star Citizen. The new ship will be offered for sale alongside the Aurora, so players have a choice between two options to begin the game!

This new ship is being created by Consolidated Outland, and as the backstory on the update explains, this rising star in space ship production will be delivering the Mustang ship. There’s a whole backstory on Consolidated Outland and it’s founder maverick trillionaire Silas Koerner on the official site as part of this new funding goal reveal.

Anyone who has backed the game and secured an Aurora ship but prefer the Mustang once it’s been designed will be able to witch ships at no extra cost. Good news for starting players as it means there will be more ships at the very basic entry level.

The Cloud Imperium team is really nailing the funding goals and each reveal usually brings in an additional $1m per week. With the speed at which gamers are backing Star Citizen this has to now be one of the most anticipated PC game releases of next year. It’s looking more impressive every week when something new is unveiled.
