Trick and treat: GOG goes horror with sale, Outlast, Deadly Premonition

HELLO THERE

I’d almost forgotten it was nearly Halloween, which is sort of sad because Peter and Paul are probably going to try to strap me into a horror game and affix a video camera to my face while I scream for mercy. GOG, thankfully, haven’t forgotten, and in honour of this most commercial of demonic holidays, they’ve added both Outlast and Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut to their catalogue, while firing up a nice big spooky sale.

Actually, I lied; consider it the “trick” part of “trick or treat.” Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut isn’t out just yet, but it will be added to the GOG catalogue later today.

So here’s the treat: the sale includes a lot of rather nifty games for up to 75% off. The full list includes the brand new Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, as well as Amnesia: The Dark Descent, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, The Penumbra Collection, Alan Wake, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, The Cat Lady, Clive Barker’s Undying, all three Gabriel Knight games, Sanitarium, Phantasmagoria, Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh, Alone in the Dark 1+2+3, Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, Pathologic, and Waxworks.

Personal recommendations would probably be for The Cat Lady, the Gabriel Knight games (although you can skip the slightly naff third), Sanitarium, and at least one of the Amnesia games. Pathologic is probably worth a look if you’re up for something aggressively weird and staggeringly oppressive, Waxworks is possibly one of the goriest games ever made, and I Have No Mouth is also a surprisingly good adventure.

This particular GOG sale is only running until Friday, if I can count properly, so bear that in mind if you’re going to umm and ahh over what to pick up.

If Peter and Paul are going to try to strap you to a horror game and affix a video camera to my face whilst you scream for mercy. I got a trolley for all the sweets we can carry from you :D.
