Steam is an essential tool for any PC gamer, it’s a store, a community hub and message system all rolled in to one. Without it PC gaming would be a little less wonderful.

Today Valve revealed there are now more that 65 million Steam accounts which I think you’ll agree is a lot of accounts and a lot of PC gamers all tied into one system.

With the recent Valve announcement of the Steam Machines, the Steam controller and a goal of driving PC gamers into their living room to play PC games that number will no doubt start to increase rather quickly.

“The main goal of Steam has always been to increase the quality of the user’s experience by reducing the distance between content creators and their audience,” said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. “As the platform grows, our job is to adapt to the changing needs of both the development and user communities. In the coming year, we plan to make perhaps our most significant collaborations with both communities through the Steam Dev Days and the Steam Machines beta.”

Steam is a colossus and Gabe Newell must be ecstatic about the numbers which show a 30% growth in the past year. PC gaming is going from strength to strength and Valve are playing a major part in increasing its popularity.

and i still rather use Uplay, i don’t need Uplay to play my games nor does it need to be active in order to make the game work.
if steam did it this way i would’ve like steam more, for now it’s a tumor on my PC, a plague for games and low-end computers alike.

You don’t? Any attempt to run Far Cry 3, Rayman Legends, or Rocksmith 2014 immediately opens Uplay for me. Hell, Rocksmith 2014 seems to require both Uplay AND Steam.

i run FarCry 3 without Uplay, at times i need to because i make maps and having a third party program guttering my memory is really annoying.
